"Pretty Woman" Prostitution Myth

“Pretty Woman” Prostitution Myth

In 1990, "Pretty Woman" did much to raise awareness about prostituted persons. Certain important aspects of prostitution were left out of the movie. The original screenplay included drug addiction, but this was repudiated in the movie. The original didn't have a happy ending. She was left crying at the curb. Also missing was the childhood abuse, loss of family, homelessness, poverty, assault, and rape. These omissions have given rise to a "Sugar Baby" or "Cinderella" myth about prostitution. Too many young women have already been tricked into believing it. Buying sex is a crime.
